Some Rainy Things..

The tiny droplets that come from heaven are always a mood booster.I believe it is how we perceive rain that matters.If we are mentally down then sad songs accompanies rain,but if you are in a vibrant phase, you experience rain with peppy songs.Even though most articles on rain are found repeated and cliché,I think the nostalgia attached to it makes it so.After summer season the arrival of rain is much awaited.

And when it comes I welcome them with umbrellas,paper boats,piping hot coffee and so on.This was the case when I was a toddler.But now the rains have become unpredictable,so am I.Nowadays I welcome rain with an open window near my study(where all my creative blunders take place) where the view is just exhilarating,the raindrops making pitter-patter sound is an addiction(once my ring tone was rain falling but I changed it as people around me looked taken aback),the petrichor-earthly smell when rain hits the dry ground, is like an intoxication.I try to inhale them as if it is the only aroma my olfactory sense loves.And usually my rainy day begins with a book.And the highlight of rains are the hot parippuvadas and samosas my mother offers when I reach home after my regular classes which gets over by evening.I may be soaked in rain even if I have an umbrella, but all the uneasiness vanishes into smoke at the sight of the food.And now Sulaimani has replaced my childhood coffee.Sulaimani is a black tea which has several crushed spices-pepper,cardamom,cloves,mace and cinnamon in it.There are different varities of sulaimani,still mother’s is the best.

Car rides during slight drizzle is an experience.And the music system playing Ilayaraja and A R Rahman is the icing on the cake.But rains are not always pleasant.When nature gets fed up of the atrocities of us humans,she assigns rain and wind to teach men a lesson.And thus they appear in the form of rainstorms and flashfloods.Even though we have seen the fierce side,we still love rain.Rain is an integral part of our childhood.I am a pluviophile who loves enjoying the odour of sod wood house which gets wet during rains.And the monsoon car-wash days my father and I used to enjoy. And the arrival of monsoon digs up several burried rain nostalgia in me.I know my writing is a bit muddled but these are my big little monsoon memoirs.And now I am taking leave to finish off my all-time-craving-pani puris.
